On February 9th, 4 students competed in the Livestock Evaluation CDE at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. They are given 8 classes of different animals (lambs, swine, cattle, etc) that they have to judge. They are placed as a group based on their points they earned compared to the real judges there. They did a good job and worked really hard to study for this CDE.

We recently had two students participate in a CDE (career development event) over at Mount Dora High School. Christina Elmore participated in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE. This is where the student is given a random topic and 30 minutes to prepare a speech to be judged. She did her best and got 4th place out of 5 people. Congrats Christina!

Krista Wilson participated in the Tractor Operations CDE. In this competition, the student is given a written safety test (in which an 80% must be scored or the student cannot drive the tractor), another written test, an oral test, and an obstacle course to drive the tractor through. There is a 3 minutes and 30 seconds time allotment for the obstacle course. All of these scores from the tests and the course are added together and the lowest score wins. She competed against 7 other boys in this competition, and won 2nd place! The first place boy beat her by 5 points. Congrats Krista!

Three of our students got to go on a trip up to Gainesville at the UF Horse Teaching Unit for a Livestock Judging clinic in January. They learned a lot of valuable information for the upcoming competition in February!
